Enterprising Maths 2022 Final
The 2022 Enterprising Maths in Scotland final, funded by the IFoA Foundation, took place on Tuesday, 22nd November in the exciting and modern surroundings of The Glasgow Science Centre. 208 Third and Fourth Year pupils in 52 teams from all across Scotland competed throughout the day in four varied and challenging rounds for the prestigious title of EMiS champions 2022.
The day began with the Team Round as contestants were faced with twelve tricky problem solving style questions themed around Greek Mythology. Congratulations go to Robert Burns Academy for winning the special prize for the Team Round.
Round Two was a practical round where teams raced to build and answer questions on an Archimedean solid. Top marks to Larbert High School for their performance in Round Two.

Pupils were then given some time to explore the treasures of the Science Centre during a well earned break.
After a break, teams reconvened for the Relay Round, an action packed end to the day that saw Grange Academy emerge as round winners.
The scores across all four events were compiled and our congratulations go to Williamwood High School who finished in 3rd place overall.
Congratulations also to the High School of Glasgow who finished a close 2nd.
This year the EMiS silver salver for 1st place went to the well deserving team from Fettes College who were also crowned EMiS 2022 champions!
EMiS would like to thank The Science Centre for hosting the event, and an extra big ‘thank you’ to the IFoA Foundation and the Scottish Board of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries whose generous sponsorship made the whole event possible.
On a personal note, I’d like to say a special thank you to Jane Creevy, who after a number of year helping EMiS, stepped down from her role. Her work with EMiS has been invaluable over the years and she will be a huge loss to the team.
It is also my final competition as National Co-Ordinator of EMiS. I would like that thank everyone who has helped make the event possible, from the IFoA Foundation, the EMiS team and pupils and teachers – the event would not be possible if it were not for you! Eilidh Cuthbertson from St Andrew’s Academy now takes on the role and I wish her every success.
